We want to use this page to share what’s new with Stepwell and what our team is up to.
Our goal to bring visibility to Special Education monitoring starts with making sure that our own process is visible. From development updates to new partnership announcements, we want to make it clear what we are doing to help states and districts improve special education. While these updates won’t be as in-depth as our blog posts or press releases, we hope that they will provide insight into how we are thinking about IDEA compliance and special education monitoring.

A few weeks ago, we put together some short videos to demonstrate some of Stepwell’s workflows. We already shared Data Validation with you, so this week we would like to introduce you to Parent Interview. Stepwell’s Parent Interview activities help team members ask the right questions to gain visibility into their perspectives on the LEA’s policies, procedures, and practices. Site visit team members can view all the results in one place via the Parent Interview Summary. Watch the Parent Interview video for a better look inside Stepwell.

Last week was a pretty busy week for the Stepwell team! We are wrapping up the development of one workflow in particular: Student Record Reviews. In this workflow, site visit team members complete online review forms for selected student records to test for compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. Stepwell creates a summary of findings by citation and generates Student Record Corrections that can be released to the LEA. We had some last minute design changes to incorporate preliminary and final report functionality. Everything is coming together nicely. Keep an eye out for some exciting news about an upcoming launch!

We’ve been putting together some videos to demonstrate some of Stepwell’s important workflows. This week, we would like to introduce you to Data Validation. This workflow allows site visit team members to complete a review form which validates that student records at the LEA match the official data submission to the SEA, and identifies any corrections that need to be made. Watch the Data Validation video below, and check back here for another update next week!

We know accessibility is important when it comes to creating new software. We want our product to be inclusive to all abilities, and we know that implementing accessibility from the beginning is the way to go. To maintain our high standards, last week our design and development teams spent time on our periodic accessibility testing to keep Stepwell up to compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards. We also updated the accessibility guide for Stepwell so that we can continue to design and develop with accessibility in mind. Check back next week for another update on Stepwell’s development.

Our team has been hard at work developing the workflows for Stepwell. Currently in the final stages of development, we have Governance Review. This workflow is designed to help monitors review documentation that the LEA has with its Regional Educational Service Area (RESA) such as policies and procedures, annual budget and service plans and local interagency agreements. Monitoring team leaders can assign the Governance Review task for a team member to complete online, review the results and add them to the overall LEA Findings report. As part of the complete Monitoring Site Visit workflow collection, the SEA can issue findings generated from the Governance Review and other reviews which result in corrective action activities that the LEA can complete, all within the Stepwell’s integrated platform. Read more about what Stepwell can do on our About page.
